Songs For Mushers (And Standard Folk) Kyf Brewer
2006 Ryf Records #C012
The concept of this collection began with two tunes written for videographer
& lifelong friend Donna Quante for her film, Pretty Sled Dogs, about
Iditarod musher Karen Ramstead and her pure bred team of siberian huskies.
Scotlyn co-wrote the title track with me, as well as sang and played some
flute. Donna's a three-time emmy winner for camera operation as well as
being really into sled dogs. We had such a great time with her huskies that
we decided to create a whole album to accompany the movie, so I looked
through and hand-picked some of my other stuff that felt right. In addition
to the songs from the film, there are two other new ones, penned with gifted
buds Rick Bell & Kit Hain, as well as an alternate version of an old
favorite. If you enjoy it, wag your tongue. You can purchase the film here
as well.
This record has
alot to do with Kyf's hometown Reisterstown, Maryland. The Salvador Deli didn't
really exist, except in the minds of himself, Dave, & a few others. The
thank-yous on the back are actually a list of everyone Kyf & Dave ever
played with together in a band. The early story of Kyf's life, as told to Andy
Bopp.
"We recorded this
LP over a period of three years with money I made from singin' jingles.
"Beautiful Thing" did alot to establish me as a solo artist. Dave & I
recorded each song at a separate time, so to me it's like a singles collection.
You liked it, so we cut another." -- Kyf
The Juice's fifth studio album, on which you'll find a song written by every band member. Skulduggery Street winds through the back alleys of every bleedin' bar in every bleedin' city we've played, and speaks of the artists, thieves, lost souls, drunks and angels we've met along the way. The hooks won't leave your head, the characters are colourful. Join us for an evening stroll and let's see who we meet.

The Barleyjuice Irish Collection Barleyjuice
2 CD set:
disc 1:
A Night at the Pub
disc 2:
The Morning After
Originally created for a special "Irish Festival" appearance on the American QVC network, this double album immediately became a favourite of radio programmers and critics. I suppose it just happens to be a really good collection of Irish songs, trad and original, culled from our first four releases. The inclusion of a few remixes and two never-before-released singles - Celtic Girl and Town of Ballybay - helped it get its legs as far as popularity among the masses, that is to say, you. The perfect choice for your first Barleyjuice purchase if you love Irish rock & folk.
Our fourth album, all of it done at the Brewery. Ever so slightly less drunken, but with much more earth and swagger. The boys, bein' together for a few years now, have developed a keen sense of steering clear of each others' gobwash whilst sloshing together as a whole. In gentlemen's terms, they do play nicely with each other. Cliff Hillis is back at the mix desk, God is in his Heaven, and all's right with the Juice in 2008.
The third 'Juice album, meant for playing loud. Plenty more trad immersed
within brilliant new originals by Swanson, Brewer & Carbomb. Not as much
pandering to the fogies, and geared more toward the upstarts of the
paddy/rock generation. A heaping pile of malarky minus the Malarky Brothers,
Six Yanks is sham/rock at its best.
"Our second album with much more original input than the first. Still some good
old trad but alot of whiskey-soaked foot-stompers by us as well. And alot more
hooly for your buck."
"After five years of piping, we found ourselves knowing all these clever
drinking songs. St. Patrick's Day gigs just weren't enough, and so here is the
next obvious incarnation - Barleyjuice! Someone once described it as "Stones
meet Pogues in a dirty Irish pub in NYC..." Well, that's pretty pretentious but
that's what I had in mind, so all right. We'll know if you like it by how
loudly & drunkenly you can sing along."

Scotlyn, CoCo, and Claire Brewer, ages 13, 11, and 9, performing on their very first collection. Three self-penned tunes, including the brand new Celtic Girl, previously released single, Valentine's Day, and their spin on Dad's tune, Pretty Sled Dogs. Also includes four traditional celtic-flavoured songs.
Everybody's gotta start SOMEWHERE... four fairly horrible recordings of three
early Ravyns songs and one Paul Revere & the Raiders cover. A bit
unlistenable, but Ryf's got a few autographed copies if you want 'em. The day
this was released, the Ravyns broke up, then re-formed a year later with Tim
Steele & Dave Bell and signed with MCA Records. A true collector's item,
produced & mixed by Rick Witkowski & John Palumbo of Crack The Sky.
Cost - $30 and you'll need a turntable.
"Rob wrote this
years before we recorded it for Fast Times at Ridgemont High. I played the
little piano plink-plinks and sang harmony. Produced by Allan Blazek, of Eagles
& Elvin Bishop fame, the recording session put our manager in the hospital
for alcohol poisoning." -- Kyf

written by very cool people at the time - all the Eagles, Stevie Nicks, Oingo

Graham Nash, who I accidentally peed on in my excitement at meeting him by the
men's room urinal at an early viewing of the flick. This film was our big

A household name
in 1984 Baltimore & vicinities, thanks to 98Rock and other great stations
of the time. A different version of "Raised On The Radio" for the LP. Three
videos on a brand new cable station - MTV. Instant rock stars!
Here we have ten
shiny little tunes in a not-so-shiny little case, the first eight having been
recorded & produced by Rob in his spooky Haven Street basement and at
Maxwell's in the mid eighties. This would have been the second album, and now,
by gosh & default, so it is. Nice production, some of their best
never-released gems... if you were in the bar with them in those days, you
already know 'em. The last two tracks, I'm A Rav'n Maniac, and a stadium
version of the same were recorded in 1996 for the Baltimore Ravens football
team, produced by Kyf and The Ravyns.

"People ask me if
I feel old and sometimes I say yeah. It's usually a lie, but not such a
convincing one when I hear the raw energy that leaps from these recordings. It
was the weekend of May 7, 1983 and DJ Mark Russo's last stand at Maxwells in
Parkville MD. The Ravyns were in their heyday, a year after the release of Fast
Times at Ridgemont High, and days before beginning our record for MCA. The
place was packed, we were on fire. You'll notice some of the versions of tunes
that appeared on recordings were in their infant stages here, some being
debuted for the first time in front of an audience. Mark recorded the entire
weekend, and twenty-odd years later here they are for you & your rowdy kids
to peruse. Rock on." -- Kyf

end-of-the-eighties production. Some great playing by Steve & John Conte
& Frankie La Rocka, with me bellowing out in front with my big fat

"The first single, the one everybody played, and I still play live. The one we
would have sold to Harley-Davidson." -- Kyf
"This is a
collection of demo recordings, most of which being songs that never made the
mercury records debut, cut by Company of Wolves in 1988 with the sole purpose
of finding a major record deal. After succeeding, it was popular consensus
among friends and fans at the time to release them just like this." -- Kyf
"The best yet
from COW, as far as I'm concerned. I loved making the first album, and this was
just more of the same, with better production. All new songs, including a full
studio version of Rocks in Your Head, and many new instruments tackled by
Steve, John & meself. I'd been doing "Dance Yourself Stupid" and "The
Ballad of Sailor Jack" live for years - now you can, too! Great reviews from
all over the globe, ah, thankyaverramush. Like they say, if ya want it done
right...." -- Kyf

"This album is
what can happen when you send the aspiring rocker to a far corner of the earth
to shoot a video - he picks up local instruments, and, unwatched, may even find
others to play them with. Though drum major Sandy Sinclair is the only true
first-generation Scot in this bunch, the rest of us truly wish we were. Hoot,
